New Year’s Resolutions January 14, 2008

I’ve got a handful of New Year’s Resolutions this year. I’ll be tracking my progress on them on this page.

Resolution #1 – Run a sub 2hr 20 min half marathon. That’ll be about a 20 minute improvement over my Nov 11th, 2007 half marathon time of 2 hrs 38 min 58 sec.

Resolution #2 – Run 500 miles over the course of a year.

“Running” means in running shoes either outside or on a treadmill. Trotting from the car to the office building does not count. Distance run in any formal “race” or “event” (like the half marathon) DO count.

Resolution #3 – Read 100 books.

To count as being read, I have to read the whole thing. Skimming counts if it is a particularly awful book. Record the book and a short review on the blog so that there’s an accurate record.

Resolution #4 – Go to the grocery store less than 70 times in 2008.

To count as a trip to the grocery store, I have to actually purchase something. Trips to Whole Foods to see if they carry something do not count. One excursion to several actual stores to do the grocery shopping counts as one trip to the grocery store. The purpose of this resolution is to save myself time and money, and to force myself to plan better.

Resolution #5 – Start a blog and write at least once weekly (52 entries by the end of 2008).

Resolution #6 – Implement a fourth meal, and adjust my other meal sizes accordingly. The fourth meal is to be tea-time daily at about 4:00. Dinner will be moved back an hour or two to 7:30-8:30 area.

This one will be evaluated loosely. If I feel like I have tea more often than not by the end of the year, I’ll have accomplished this one

Miles run – 186

Training – pretty much gone to crap for now – knee’s still iffy, back/shoulder muscle appears to be lightly pulled, rest of my back is in stress & tension knots. Not likely to get back to a really regular training schedule for a while.

Books – since June 4, I’ve read About a Boy, If Chins Could Kill, and Furies of Calderon. I tried the Yiddish Policemen’s Union and didn’t care for it much, so dropped it from the list. Total count is now 30.

Grocery store – temporarily living w/in two blocks of the grocery store & have been using the walk there as exercise. Tough to estimate the number of trips at this point. This resolution might be dead.
